What this site is

RentOrOwn.info is a free, browser-based calculator that estimates the long-run cost of renting versus buying a home under a set of assumptions you control. It is an educational decision aid, not a personalized recommendation and not a substitute for advice from a licensed financial planner, tax advisor, mortgage broker, or real estate agent.

No warranty

Every number the calculator returns is the deterministic output of the inputs you give it. Defaults are sourced (see tooltips) but no model can perfectly predict interest rates, home prices, or your life. We provide the calculator "as is" without warranty of any kind. Use it as one input among many when you decide.

Your responsibilities

• Use the site for lawful, personal, non-automated purposes.
• Do not scrape, hammer, or otherwise disrupt the site in ways that impact other visitors.
• Do not represent our numbers as personalized advice to someone else without also linking to the calculator so they can adjust the assumptions themselves.

Affiliate relationships

RentOrOwn.info participates in affiliate programs; we may earn a commission on qualifying referrals at no extra cost to you. We never accept payment to change the math or the defaults, and we do not run lender, broker, or realtor referrals inside the calculator itself.

Intellectual property

The calculator's math, the site design, and the written content are © 2026 RentOrOwn.info. You may link to any page freely and quote up to a paragraph with attribution. For anything larger, please email us first.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, RentOrOwn.info is not liable for any losses arising from decisions you make based on the calculator's output. This is a big enough decision that you should confirm the numbers with someone qualified before you sign anything.
